Dear Southwest Tech Families,
On Friday, April 4, the Vermont Agency of Education shared a request from the U.S. Department of Education asking superintendents to certify that schools are in compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin in programs receiving federal assistance.
We want to reassure our school community that Southwest Vermont Regional Technical School District has always complied with Title VI and remains fully committed to upholding the civil rights of all students and staff.
As of Monday, April 7, the Agency of Education, in consultation with the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, announced that the state will issue one unified, statewide certification on behalf of all school districts. This response reaffirms Vermont’s compliance with current law and rejects any conditions not supported by it.
At Southwest Tech, we are deeply committed to creating a learning environment where all students feel safe, supported, and empowered—regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, income, geography, language, gender identity, or ability. Our mission is to prepare students for successful futures, and that includes ensuring every learner is respected and has the opportunity to thrive.
We thank you for your continued support as we stay focused on what matters most: the success and well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
Meg Honsinger
Superintendent/Director
