Teacher Bio

Katherine Slade is the Medical Professions teacher at Southwest Tech, where she has been inspiring future healthcare professionals since 1999. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Vermont and spent 15 years as a registered nurse at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, gaining extensive experience in pediatrics, intensive care, and perioperative nursing.

During her teaching career, she has been a dedicated advisor for student leadership organizations. As a SkillsUSA advisor for ten years, she mentored seven teams who earned National medals in the Health Knowledge Bowl competition. Since becoming a HOSA advisor in 2019, she has coached and supported 27 student competitors at the HOSA International Leadership Conference. Her commitment to student success was recognized in 2025 when she was named Vermont’s HOSA Advisor of the Year and honored as an Outstanding Advisor at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville.

Ms. Slade finds the most rewarding part of her career to be seeing her students achieve their goals and enter the medical field—many of them serving right here in the local community. She lives in North Bennington with her husband, enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and watching soccer. She is also proud of her two grown children, one of whom followed in her medical footsteps to become a nurse anesthetist.
